Every year on Memorial Day weekend, the roads within Marietta National Cemetery are lined with flags on white staffs that have been donated by families of Veterans. As you know, when a Veteran is buried, a U.S. Flag is presented to the family. A number of families have taken advantage of the Avenue Of Flags opportunity at Marietta National Cemetery. If you wish to donate Veteran's Flag to the cemetery, a form is provided in this section which can be printed and returned to the National Memorial Day Association & Avenue of Flags, Inc. In turn, the donor will be contacted with specific instructions on how the flag is to be donated. Each Veteran's name whose flag has been donated is then engraved on a brass plaque which is attached to a display and his or her name is placed in a Registry along with the name of the donor. Each Veteran is assigned a number and all are listed in the Registry in the number order in which they are received.
There is no cost to the family for this service. If the family wishes to make a donation along with the flag, the money will be used in the upkeep of the plaque and Avenue of Flags. This is a wonderful way to honor the Veteran by displaying his flag rather than have it lie in a drawer unused. Please give consideration to this way of honoring your Veteran. |
